Some works of art begin with an idea. Others begin with something too difficult to put into words.
My Angel comes from the heartbreaking loss of BoStar’s first great-grandchild, who was stillborn.
Before the child’s passing, BoStar had prayed to dedicate the baby to God. His faith became an important source of comfort after the loss, giving him the belief that his great-grandchild was now in heaven.
Grief eventually found another outlet through writing.
BoStar explains:
“My first great grandchild was tragically still born. I had already prayed a prayer to sanctify the child to God, so I know he is in heaven. As part of my grieving process, I wrote the poem ‘My Angel.’ When I shared the story with my brother Boz, he drew this artwork as an image of God’s comfort.”
That experience became My Angel—a work created not simply to illustrate loss, but to give shape to remembrance, faith, and the comfort BoStar found while grieving.
Rendered in graphite and ink on Bristol board, the piece carries an intimacy appropriate to its story. It represents the instinct to hold onto someone whose life was painfully brief and to create something lasting from a moment a family will never forget.
At its heart, My Angel is about love continuing after loss.
